We promote the following principle: 100% of the machine operating time must be used exclusively for cutting, not for other tasks. On some of the cutters in production today, part of the machine time is used for other operations, such as leather scanning, if the camera is installed on the cutting head. Furthermore, because most of the cutting systems today are in-line, the cutting activity is often stopped in order for the inspection or nesting to be completed. In some cases 30-50% of the total machine time is wasted.
By changing the workflow and/or by replacing the leather scanning procedure we are able to provide a steady input of cut-jobs and avoid any stopping of the machine, thus increasing the total output.
This can be translated as an overall increase in production or in a better productivity based on less hours needed to complete the same volume of production.
